  • A preliminary hearing is scheduled to take place next week for a former custodian at a university in Rolla who has been charged with failing to register as a sex offender.
The former janitor, Stacey William Mrozek, who was born in 1961, was arrested by the Phelps County Sheriff's Department in July.
Mrozek began working at Missouri University of Science and Technology in October 1992 and ended his employment with the university on July 24, 2012, according to a university spokesperson.
According to Missouri case.net, the preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, at the Phelps County Courthouse.
Mrozek remains incarcerated in the Phelps County Jail, a sheriff's department spokesperson confirmed this week. According to case.net, his bond is set at $50,000.
Court documents state that Mrozek was charged and convicted with attempted child molestation in 1988 in Graham County, Ariz. He was released from prison in 1991.
After moving from Arizona to Rolla, Mrozek allegedly failed to register as a sex offender.
The Phelps County Sheriff's Department was made aware of Mrozek after being informed by the U.S. Marshals Office, who was checking on a sex offenders list and found Mrozek missing from the system, according to a sheriff's department spokesperson.
Court documents stated that after Mrozek was arrested, he completed the necessary sex offender registration forms.
