Elmer George Honse, of Rolla, passed from this life on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at the Missouri Veterans Home in St. James, Missouri.
Elmer was born in rural Phelps County on January 6, 1917 to the late Hiram E. and Elsie (Bossman) Honse. He was united in marriage to Marianna Maxwell on June 15, 1941 and to this union 4 children were born.
In addition to his parents, Elmer was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years Marianna Honse, infant son Roger and two sisters, Bertha Kurtz and Mildred Parker.
Elmer is survived by two sons, Harlen Honse and wife Janet of St. James, Missouri, Steve Honse and wife Carolyn of Bettendorf, Iowa and a daughter Dorthea (Dotty) Rapier and husband Wayne of Rolla, Missouri; eight grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and cousin, Sandy Myers.
Elmer was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and will be dearly missed by his family. During World War II, Elmer served in the U.S. Army in the European Theatre. At the end of the war, he returned to Missouri and his family. Being a man of many talents, he had several occupations before becoming a full time carpenter and a proud member of Carpenters Local Union No. 2298 for over forty years. Elmer was active in the Church of God where he served on the board of trustees and donated his time, skills and knowledge on the church’s construction projects.
Funeral services for Elmer will be held on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Null and Son Funeral Home in Rolla, Missouri. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 18, 2012.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or Gideons International.
