  • A Cabool man died as a result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident in Yancy Mills Friday afternoon.

Michael R. Johnson, 22, of Cabool was pronounced dead at University Medical Center in Columbia at 7:52 p.m.

The accident happened on Highway 63 at 6:28 p.m. when a 1999 Oldsmobile, owned and operated by Johnson, was travelling north on Highway 63 when it passed a 2006 GMC bucket truck driven by Jackie L. Grimm, 42, of Fulton. Johnson lost control on the wet pavement and hit a 2006 Ford Explorer driven by Evalena F. Wyble, 48, of Beulah, which was southbound on Highway 63. The Explorer then hit the bucket truck.

Johnson was transported to the Phelps County Medical Center, and later to the University Medical Center in Columbia.

Wyble was transported to the Phelps County Medical center with moderate injuries, she was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the accident.

It is unknown if Johnson was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Both the Oldsmobile and Explorer were totaled. The bucket truck sustained moderate damage and Grimm, who was wearing his seatbelt, was uninjured.

This is the 31st fatality for the Missouri Highway Patrol Troop I in 2012.
