  • This year’s Edgar Prairie Days festivities will include live music, crafts, barbecue contests, bull riding and more.
The event will kick off this Friday evening and run all day Saturday at the Edgar Springs Saddle Club. The theme of this year’s event is “Country Strong.”
New this year will be a performance by a live band, Alderwood, which is set to play Saturday from 7-11 p.m., according to Kathy Jaeger, Edgar Prairie Days and Saddle Club committee member.
“In the past, we always did a street dance and hired a DJ and closed off part of the downtown streets,” she explained.
In addition, Steve Heavin will provide the pre-show entertainment from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Saturday. There also will be performances by gospel and bluegrass bands Saturday afternoon, Jaeger added. An arena dance will take place from 7-11 p.m. Saturday.
Among the other events scheduled this year will be a junior rodeo featuring a championship youth bull riding association set for Friday from 7-10:30 p.m., a parade that will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, a corn hole tournament at 2 p.m. Saturday and a Civil War re-enactment from 2-5 p.m. Saturday.
Judging for the rib contest will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday. People can contact Mitch Benthal for more information at 573-247-2974.
Additionally, there will be children’s games, craft vendors, a pie eating contest and silent auction raffles, according to Jaeger.
The Little Miss and Mister contest has been cancelled because no contestants entered.
Visitors Saturday can get wrist bands for $13 for people ages 13 and over, $5 for children ages 6-12, children age 5 and under can get in for free. There also is a family pack being offered, which includes two adult wrist bands and three kids wrist bands for $25.
