Family with 19 children to perform at Saturday’s Patriot Day Rally
An Arkansas family of 19 children who star in their own national television show will be on the program at Saturday's Patriot Day Rally in Rolla.
The children of the Duggar family of The Learning Channel's "19 Kids and Counting" will sing and perform with their musical instruments. Their parents, Jim Bob and Michelle, will speak to the audience.
"They have an obvious love for faith, family and freedom," according to the Patriot Day Rally website announcement. "You will be inspired by this special family as we celebrate this great country together."
Purpose of the Patriot Day Rally, called "fireworks with meaning," is to celebrate America. It is a non-partisan event with many community sponsors.
In addition to the Duggars, William Federer, host of the radio program, "American Minute," will also be on the program.
The evening will include a patriotic concert starting at 8 p.m. Community choirs will be featured. There will be a recognition of veterans.
The rally will begin at 5:30 p.m. with the opening of the All-American Picnic and children's activities.
The picnic is said to be "affordable for families, free for veterans." In addition to a picnic meal, there will be funnel cakes and deep-fried Oreos available.
Children's activities include inflatables, games, face painting, horse rides and a one-room school house. "Patriotic characters" will also be present.
A petting zoo and a live bald eagle exhibit will be open.
The speakers will be on the stage prior to the 8 p.m. concert.
According to publicity information, Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar were married July 21, 1984. Three years later Michelle went off birth control, had a child, went back on birth control, got pregnant anyway and had a miscarriage.
The death of the infant bothered them, and they prayed for forgiveness.
"They asked God to bless them with as many children as He saw fit in His timing," according to the publicity information. "Right after that Michelle got pregnant with twins! To date they have been blessed with 19 children, (10 boys and 9 girls.)"
Jim Bob served two terms in the Arkansas House of Representatives, 1999-2003; he was a candidate for U.S. Senate in 2002.
They appear on the weekly TLC reality show and have also appeared on many other national and international TV shows.
Their second book, "A Love That Multiplies," is a New York Times Best Seller.
The other speaker on the pre-concert program is William J. Federer, president of Amerisearch Inc., a publishing company dedicated to researching America's noble. heritage.
A former U.S. congressional candidate, Federer has appeared on hundreds of radio and television interviews, including CSPAN, Hannity and Colmes, O'Reilly Factor and NPR

Also on the agenda for the evening is the All-American Pie Baking Competition. Area residents are invited to bring their best pies to the rally at 5:30. Judging will be based on appearance, creativity and flavor. Ribbons for three places will be awarded, along with a gift certificate to the first place winner.
Area residents attending the rally are encourage to dress in Revolutionary War-era clothing.
