  • Velma Ruth Bailey, of St. James, passed away Thursday, August 23, 2012 at the age of 68. She was born in Phelps County on January 2, 1944 to the late Tomy and Bessie (Williams) Blake.

    On November 14, 1980 she married Harold Eugene “Gene” Bailey who preceded her in death on October 24, 2007. Prior to retiring, Ruth worked many years as an Information Tech Supervisor for the Phelps County Sheriff’s Department.

    In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Thelma Lamb.

    Ruth loved spending time with her family and grandchildren and will be greatly missed by her surviving family which includes three daughters, Judy Harris and Keven Tiberghien, of Edgar Springs, Cindy Harris and Mark Barton, of Cuba, MO, and Nancy and Howard Bobbitt, of St. James; two brothers, Henry Blake and wife Mary and Gene Blake and wife Barb, both of Edgar Springs; two sisters, Alice Wagoner and husband Rodger, of Jerome, and Joice Jefferies, of Fulton, MO; 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other extended family members and many dear friends.

    A funeral service for Ruth Bailey will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, August 27, 2012 at the Null & Son Funeral Home. Pastor Ray Cook will officiate. Interment will follow in Ozark Hills Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

    A visitation for familyand friends will be held from 5-8 p.m. Sunday, August 26th at the funeral home.

    Memorial contributions are suggested to the Missouri Law Enforcement Memorial Fund (to assist families of fallen active law enforcement officers).
