Former two-sport Rolla High School athlete Second Lieutenant Jason Newell was selected as a 2012 ACRA All-Regional All-American Oarsmen by the American Collegiate Rowing Association (ACRA) during the national championships in Gainesville, Ga.
Lieut. Newell, son of Kerri and Major (Retired) Mark Newell of Rolla, recently graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in Systems Engineering and is now a commissioned officer in the Army. He will report later this summer to Fort Sill, Oklahoma for the Field Artillery Officers Course and then to Fort Riley, Kansas for his first duty assignment with the 1st Battalion, 7th Artillery Regiment of the 1st Infantry Division.

Additionally, the top rowers were ranked according to their 2,000 meter erg scores, career racing results, accomplishments within the team, and the coaches’ recommendations. Newell rowed all four years at USMA as part of a team that received accolades such as the only West Point freshman boat to win nationals and finished in the finals at the ACRA National Championships in 2010.
