  • Six candidates want to serve on the Phelps County Regional Medical Center Board of Trustees; only two seats are available and will be decided in Tuesday’s election.
Running for a five-year term are Ted Day and Mike Samaras, both of Rolla.
Running for a two-year unexpired term (originally held by Dr. Don James) are Brian Woolley, Mike Monaldi, E. Ward Merrell and Abert Crump Jr., all of Rolla.
Day currently serves on the board, appointed to Dr. James’s post after Dr. James, the hospital’s medical director, resigned to seek employment with the hospital. Day is a former pharmacist who now owns Mo-Sci Corp.
Samaras, a Greek immigrant, manages Alex’s Pizza, has bought and sold businesses in Rolla since moving here and has been involved with real estate.
Day and Samaras are seeking a full-term. Incumbent John Beger, whose term expired, did not run for reelection.
Woolley is an attorney who has run for associate judge.
Monaldi is the business manager for Anderson Foot Clinic.
Merrell retired in 2010 following a 40-year career in insurance.
Crump, an attorney, serves on the Board of Public Works, the board that directs Rolla Municipal Utilities.
All the candidates are involved in various community, church, civic or political organizations.
