Terry Robinson of the Missouri S&T men’s track team recorded his best time of the season in the 400-meter hurdles Thursday evening and qualified for Saturday's finals in the event at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Johnson C. Smith University.

Robinson posted a time of 51.40 seconds to finish second in the first heat - trailing only Leford Green of the host school, who came into the meet with the best time in the nation this season in the 400-hurdles - and land one of the eight spots in the finals Saturday. That race will begin at 7:10 p.m., Central time.

The fastest time in the preliminaries came from Lincoln's Steve Banton, who ran a 50.30 to win the second heat, while his teammate, Sabiel Anderson, posted a time of 51.08 seconds.  Green had a time of 51.26 that topped the first heat.

Robinson, whose previous best mark in the 400-meter hurdles was 52.16 earlier this season at the LSU Relays, will run again Friday as part of the Miners' 4x400-meter relay team along with Bryan Kluge, Brendan Smith and Brandon Etzold. The preliminary rounds of that event are scheduled to start at 8:25 p.m., Central time.

The other S&T competitors in Charlotte will compete Saturday. Tamara McCaskill will be in the high jump at 4:35 p.m., while the men's pole vault competition that will include Peter Hollenbeck and Dan Hellwig will get underway at 4:45 p.m. If S&T's 4x400-meter relay qualifies for the finals, that race is scheduled to begin at 8:40 p.m.
