A 26-year-old Rolla man was arrested Monday and charged with assault shortly after he allegedly stabbed a man.

Kyle R.C. Bell, a resident of the 1800 block of Belmont Court, was charged with first-degree assault and booked into the Phelps County Jail. His bond was set at $250,000, with the condition ordered by the court that he has no contact with the victim.

The victim, a 58-year-old male, sustained a stab wound to the left side of his body. His identity was not released by the Phelps County Sheriff’s Department. Initial reports indicated he is in stable condition at University Hospital in Columbia.

According to a press release issued by the Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded to the emergency call for help in the 13000 block of County Road 5110 at 8 a.m. Monday. Information received by dispatchers at the Central Communications Center indicated a male had stabbed another man after a verbal and physical altercation.

When deputies arrived, they found Bell still at the scene and also discovered a large sheath knife on the premises, which they determined was used during the attack, the report stated.

Bell is scheduled to appear in court at 9 a.m. Tuesday for arraignment and case review.
