The girls’ 4x400-meter relay team will be the lone representative for the Rolla High School track squad at next weekend’s Missouri Class 4 Track and Field Championships.

The Rolla girls’ 4x400 unit advanced through the Class 4 Section 3 Meet, held last Saturday at Lebanon High School.

The Lady Bulldog 4x400 unit of Shandy Crall, Claire Victor, Ijeoma Okafor and Caryn Ranney placed fourth overall in the sectional race with a time of 4:06.4.

The top four finishers in each event advance on to the state meet, to be held Friday and Saturday at Dwight T. Reed Stadium on the campus of Lincoln University in Jefferson City.

In the girls’ 4x400-meter it appeared Rolla would have another just-missed fifth-place finish.

However, at the conclusion of the race it was announced that Columbia Hickman -- originally in third place -- was disqualified for pushing and bumping during the race. That moved Waynesville up to third place and Rolla to the qualifying fourth spot.

It’s the second straight year the Lady Bulldog 4x400-meter relay team has advanced to state.

RHS just missed advancing in a couple of other events.

Okafor placed fifth in the girls’ 300-meter hurdles, finishing with a time of :47.3.

Rolla’s boys’ 4x400-meter relay team of Davon Siripet, Maurice Penn, Stephen Kofoed and Alex McCormack also finished fifth with a time of 3:27.5, two seconds behind No. 4 finisher Carthage. Another RHS fifth place came in the girls’ 4x200-meter relay, as the team of Crall, Victor, Christine Drallmeier and Ranney had a time of 1:47.9.

Ranney placed seventh in the open 200-meter dash, but became the third Rolla female sprinter ever to run the 200 in under 26 seconds. Her time was :26.16 electronically, which converts to :25.9 in hand-held timing, putting her behind only former school record holder Michelle Green and currently school record holder Chantate McMillan.
