In addition to the competition, eight members of the Newburg High School track team will be attempting to beat the weather as well this weekend at the Missouri Class 1 Track and Field Championships.

The Newburg competitors are scheduled to begin performing in state competition today at Dwight T. Reed Stadium on the campus of Lincoln University in Jefferson City.

Wolves competing this weekend include senior Mary Porter in the girls’ 800- and 1,600-meter runs; sophomore Clarissa Rosenburg in the girls’ discus and shot put; junior Alex Hoffman in the girls’ shot put; junior Brandon Sutton in the boys’ 110-meter hurdles; sophomore Josh Smith in the boys’ pole vault; junior Dustin Colegate in the boys’ 100-meter dash; senior Cory Kost in the boys’ 300-meter hurdles, and the boys’ 4x100-meter relay team of Colegate, Sutton, senior Cameron Smith and Kost. Junior Tyler Sander and freshman Dillon McNamara will be alternates for the relay squad.

Those athletes advance to the state meet through last Saturday’s Missouri Class 1 Section 2 Meet at Marshfield.

It was a soggy field at Marshfield last week and that could be the case this weekend as well, as the rainy May continues.
