The season came to an end for the seventh-seeded Newburg High School baseball team Tuesday night, as the Wolves fell to second-seeded Conway 4-2 in the first round of the rain-delayed Missouri Class 2 District 8 Tournament.


Newburg senior Johnny Mudd put Newburg ahead in the third inning with a two-run double. However, Conway scored one run in the fourth inning and took the lead for good with a three-run fifth frame.


In other first-round games:


No. 1 Eugene 18, No. 8 Richland 0: Pitcher Damon Adrian fired a five-inning no-hitter for Eugene. Eugene had a 10-run inning.


No. 3 Dixon 3, No. 2 Laquey 2: The Dixon Bulldogs scored two runs in the second and one in the third before Laquey’s Nick York shut them down with nine strikeouts. Laquey scored two in the sixth off Jared Weider; Doyle then came on in relief and shut the door for the save.


No. 4 Iberia 10, No. 5 Plato 5: The host Rangers scored eight runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to win.
