Senior Will Baylor and sophomore Michael Steelman finished tied for 97th and 119th respectively in the Missouri Class 4 State Golf Tournament, which concluded Tuesday at the Sedalia Country Club.


Baylor finished with a 36-hole score of 27-over-par 81-86--167 while Steelman shot 86-91--177.


Ryan Buerk of Blue Springs captured the individual state championship with 143, one stroke better than Parkway South’s Kyle Weldon.

Joseph Atkisson of the Ozark Conference’s Springfield Kickapoo tied for eighth overall with 149.

Among other Ozark Conference scores, Springfield Glendale’s Rayvaun Christenson tied for 21st at 153, Glendale’s Jonathan Fulp tied for 23rd at 154; Glendale’s Adam Sterling tied for 37th at 157; Camdenton’s Michael Civitate tied for 37th at 157, and Lebanon’s Mitch Mather tied for 44th at 159.

Rockhurst won the team state title with 616 while Columbia Rock Bridge was second with 620.

Class 3

In the Missouri Class 3 State Tournament at Island Green Golf Club in Republic, St. James High School senior Jon Connell tied for 86th overall by shooting 32-over-par 84-88--172.

The state medalist in Class 3 was Westminster Christian Academy teammates Kevin Vandekamp and Kevin Bell, who both fired 145.

One stroke behind them in third place was Owensville’s Cy Mortiz at 146.

Other area scores: Union’s Alec Wickey placed ninth with 150; St. Clair’s Cameron Stahlman tied for 23rd at 157, and Sullivan’s Cody Philpot tied for 34th with 160.

Westminster Christian won the team title by 26 strokes, shooting 599.

Class 2

In the Missouri Class 2 State Tournament play at Silo Ridge Golf Club in Bolivar, Belle High School’s Arthur Hance tied for 14th individually by shooting 18-over-par 162.

Lutheran (St. Peters) High School’s Samuel Deitte won Class 2 medalist honors with 148, one stroke better than Clearwater’s Tanner McKinney.

Another other area golfers, Mountain Grove’s Carter Courtney tied for 16th at 163, Hermann teammates Ethan Kirchhofer and Jacob Leitcht tied for 25th with 165; Belle’s Brendan Moreland tied for 33rd at 167; Steelville’s Aaron Mahurin tied for 36th with 168; Belle’s Tucker Gehlert tied for 36th with 168; Belle’s Garrett Ridenhour tied for 56th with 175; Mountain Grove’s Aaron Harker tied for 62nd at 176; Mountain Grove’s Trevor Hale tied for 64th with 177; Cuba’s Kody Ettinger tied for 83rd with 184, and Belle’s Jesse Maples tied for 85th at 185.

Whitfield won the Class 2 team crown with 635, 25 strokes better than runner-up Lutheran (St. Peters). Belle placed fourth in the team standings with 671 while Mountain Grove was eighth with 695.

Class 1

In Missouri Class 1 State Tournament action at Rivercut Golf Course in Springfield, junior Drew DeLong of the Newburg High School golf team tied for 36th overall by shooting 36-over-par 89-91--180.

Also for the Wolves senior Cameron Smith tied for 97th with 100-106--206. Crocker’s Austin Cox finished 118th with 118-115--233.

Tarkio’s Derek Hawkins won the Class 1 medalist title by three strokes, shooting 154.

Sacred Heart won the team Class 1 crown by one stroke over Marceline, 663-664.
