Both members of the Rolla High School boys’ golf team competing in the Missouri Class 4 State Tournament were down in the pack after Monday’s first round at the Sedalia Country Club.


Bulldog senior Will Baylor was tied for 68th with 11-over-par 81 while freshman Michael Steelman is tied for 109th with 86.

Two players, Kyle Weldon of Parkway South and Mark Castera of Rockhurst, were tied for medalist honors after the first round with 70.

Among other area players, Springfield Glendale’s Rayvaun Christenson was tied for seventh at 73 while Glendale’s Jonathan Fulp and Springfield Kickapoo’s Joseph Atkisson were tied for 12th with 74; Glendale’s Adam Sterling was tied for 24th with 76; Camdenton’s Michael Civitate and Glendale’s Thomas Brockman tied for 53rd with 79, and Lebanon’s Mitch Mather was tied for 61st with 80.

Springfield Glendale and Rockhurst were tied for first in the team standings with 302 each while Columbia Rock Bridge was third with 304, Poplar Bluff fourth with 307 and DeSmet fifth with 310.

The final round is slated for today.

Class 3

Senior Jon Connell of St. James High School was tied for 71st after the first day of competition Monday at the Class 3 State Tournament at Island Green Golf Club at Republic.

Connell shot 14-over-par 84 Monday.

Kevin Bell of Westminster Christian Academy shot 70 to take the first-round lead, one stroke better than Union’s Alec Wickey’s 71. Owensville’s Cy Moritz was tied for third with 73.

Among other area players, Sullivan’s Cody Philpot tied for 16th with 77, St. Clair’s Cameron Stahlman was tied for 30th with 79 and Union’s Daniel King was tied for 71st with 84.

Westminster Christian was leading the team standings by 17 strokes, with 299.

Class 2

Cuba’s David Abolt was tied for second place individually in the Missouri Class 2 State Tournament Monday at Silo Ridge Golf Club in Bolivar.

Abolt and Centralia’s Dakyn Dollens both shot 4-over-par 76, five strokes behind leader Samuel Deitte of Lutheran (St. Peters) High School.

The Belle duo of Arthur Hance and Brendan Moreland were tied for 22nd after Monday’s round with 83 while Mountain Grove’s Carter Courtney and Hermann’s Jacob Leicht were among those tied at 28th with 84.

Whitfield is leading the Class 2 team competition with 324 while Belle was fifth with 345 and Mountain Grove sixth with 346.

Class 1

Junior Drew DeLong of Newburg High School was tied for 33rd overall while senior Cameron Smith of the Wolves was tied for 79th after the first day of competition Monday during the Class 1 State Tournament at Rivercut Golf Course in Springfield.
DeLong shot 17-over-par 89 on Monday while Smith shot 100.

Tipton’s Isaac Garber paced the Class 1 field with 74 while Tarkio’s Derek Hawkins was one stroke back at 75.

Among other area players Crocker’s Austin Cox was tied for 116th with 118.
Marceline was leading Class 1 after the first day with 332 while Sacred heart was second with 333.
