Women

The Lady Miners are hoping it’s a whole new game in the post-season, as they stumbled to a 4-8 finish to the season, including a 68-60 road setback to Rockhurst in their regular-season finale Feb. 20.

S&T brings a 14-13 overall record and a 8-10 GLVC mark into Saturday’s game. The Lewis University Flyers are 16-11 and 12-6. When the two teams met in the regular season Lewis won 69-59 Jan. 21 in Rolla.

It’s the fifth-straight year that S&T has competed in the GLVC Tournament.

Lewis enters Saturday’s game riding a two-game winning streak, beating Quincy 69-67 at home last Saturday to secure second place in the GLVC North Division. The Flyers have won six of their last eight games and are averaging 71.1 points.

Junior Jenny Turpel, a 5-10 forward, paces the Flyers with 17.7-point and 8.2-rebound averages. Senior Kelly Dianis, a 5-10 forward, averages 10.7 points, 5-9 freshman guard Labrenthia Murdock 8.7 points and 5-6 junior guard Kady Currin 3.7 assists.

Senior guard Andrea Downs averages 11.1 points to lead the Lady Miners while sophomore forward Julie Meyer averages 10.2 points, freshman forward Hailee Parks 9.3 points and 5.1 rebounds and senior guard Jazmine Bell 9.0 points.

Men

The Miners got into the tournament despite a 7-20 overall record and a 3-15 GLVC mark. Many of those losses were close-calls, and S&T is hoping to get on a post-season run.

The winner of the S&T-Northern Kentucky game will face Saint Joseph’s (17-10) in Sunday’s quarterfinals.

The Northern Kentucky Norse come in with a 15-12 overall record and a 8-10 league mark.
When the two teams met in the regular season Feb. 6 in Highland Heights, Ky. Northern Kentucky defeated S&T 72-54.

David Palmer, a 6-9 senior center who was an All-GLVC First-Team selection this season, averages 17.3 points and 8.3 rebounds to power Northern Kentucky while 6-4 junior guard Dennis Gagai averages 10.0 points, 6-5 junior guard Dustin Maguire 9.9 points and 6-7 junior forward Chris Knight 9.6 points and 5.8 rebounds.

Freshman forward Bryce Foster paces S&T in scoring with a 13.3 average while 5-11 senior guard A.J. Mandani averages 10.8 points, 6-4 junior forward Byron Bundy 10.3 points, 6-2 junior guard Mike Malat 9.0 points and 6-7 senior forward Adam Knollmeyer 7.5 points and 5.4 rebounds.
