The Newburg High School girls’ basketball team ended its regular season by beating Plato 69-57 in Frisco League action Thursday.


It was Senior Night for the Newburg Lady Wolves.


Fourth-seeded Newburg is slated to play fifth-seeded Vienna at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in the first round of the Missouri Class 2 District 8 Tournament at Laquey High School.


Newburg ends the regular season 10-13 overall and 3-5 in the Frisco League. Crocker won the Frisco League girls’ basketball title by beating Laquey on Thursday.

Newburg took a 14-8 lead over Plato at the end of the first period and went into halftime up 31-23. The Lady Wolves led 43-33 entering the fourth quarter.

Sophomore guard Hannah Yelton had 23 points to lead Newburg while senior Mary Porter added 12 and senior Brittany Wilson 10. The Lady Wolves hit 20-of-26 free throws.

Senior Karson Paterson had 20 points to lead Plato.

In one quarter of a junior varsity game Newburg won 14-11. Kaitlin Jordan had nine points on three 3-pointers for the Newburg jayvee squad.
