The Newburg High School girls’ basketball team won its second-straight game this week, as the Lady Wolves whipped Viburnum 58-38 in non-conference action.


Newburg, now 9-13, led 19-13 after the first period and went into halftime up 34-23. The Lady Wolves headed into the fourth quarter with a 48-27 advantage.

Sophomore guard Hannah Yelton had 24 points, four steals and four assists for Newburg while senior forward Brittany Wilson had 10 points and seven rebounds; senior guard Mary Porter had nine rebounds, and junior guard Allison Thompson had five assists.
Nikki Bozic led Viburnum with 13 points.

The Lady Wolves are scheduled to host Plato in Frisco League action tonight in their regular-season finale. It will be Senior Night for Newburg, starting at 6 p.m.

Newburg is to play Vienna at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in the first round of Class 2 District 8 Tournament action in Laquey.
