Both the Newburg High School boys’ and girls’ basketball teams have been seeded No. 4 for the Missouri Class 2 District 8 Tournament, to be held Feb. 27-March 5 at Laquey High School.


Both the Newburg High School boys’ and girls’ basketball teams have been seeded No. 4 for the Missouri Class 2 District 8 Tournament, to be held Feb. 27-March 5 at Laquey High School.

Boys

In the boys’ bracket Stoutland is seeded No. 1, Laquey No. 2, Plato No. 3, Newburg No. 4, Richland No. 5, Iberia No. 6, Vienna No. 7 and Crocker No. 8.

In first-round games on Monday, March 1 Stoutland plays Crocker at 6 p.m. and Newburg takes on Richland at 7:30 p.m. In first-round games on Tuesday, March 2 Laquey plays Vienna at 6 p.m. while Plato faces Iberia at 7:30 p.m.

In the semifinals on March 4 the Stoutland-Crocker winner plays the Newburg-Richland winner at 6 p.m. while the Laquey-Vienna winner plays the Plato-Iberia winner at 7:30 p.m.

The boys’ championship game is slated for 7:30 p.m. March 5.

Girls

In the girls’ bracket Richland is seeded No. 1, Laquey No. 2, Crocker No. 3, Newburg No. 4, Vienna No. 5, Plato No. 6, Stoutland No. 7 and Iberia No. 8.

In first-round games on Saturday, Feb. 27 it is Richland vs. Iberia at 2 p.m., Newburg vs. Vienna at 3:30 p.m., Laquey vs. Stoutland at 5 p.m. and Crocker vs. Plato at 6:30 p.m.

In semifinal games on March 3 the Richland-Iberia winner plays the Newburg-Vienna winner at 6 p.m. and the Laquey-Stoutland winner takes on the Crocker-Plato winner at 7:30 p.m.

The girls’ title game is scheduled for 6 p.m.

The boys’ and girls’ champions of District 8 will meet the District 7 champions in Class 2 Sectional action March 10 at Camdenton High School. The girls’ sectional game begins at 6 p.m. with the boys’ game following at 7:45 p.m.

Schools in District 7 include Lincoln, New Bloomfield, Northwest Hughesville, Russellville, Sacred Heart, Smithton, Stover and Tipton.

The sectional survivors advance on to the Class 2 Quarterfinals, to be held March 13 at Jefferson City High School (girls’ game 1 p.m., boys’ game 2:45 p.m.).
