The Newburg High School girls’ basketball team improved its record to 8-13 overall and 2-4 in the Frisco League by beating Licking 79-68 Monday night.

Newburg led 19-17 after the first period but the Licking Lady Wildcats took a 41-37 halftime edge. However, the Lady Wolves outscored Licking 22-9 in the third quarter to take a 59-50 advantage into halftime.

Sophomore guard Hannah Yelton poured in 35 points to lead Newburg while junior Allison Thompson added 15 points.

No junior varsity game was held.
Newburg is scheduled to play at Viburnum today, with the jayvee game starting at 6 p.m. with the varsity contest to follow.
