The Newburg High School boys’ basketball team couldn’t hold a fourth-quarter lead and fell to Laquey 81-70 in Frisco League action Friday.


It was Homecoming Game for Newburg, now 12-10 overall and 4-3 in the league. Laquey stays unbeaten in league play and improves to 18-5 overall.


Newburg led 14-13 after the first period but Laquey took a 35-29 halftime lead. The Hornets led 52-49 entering the fourth quarter. Newburg had a four-point lead with four minutes left, but on the power of free throw shooting Laquey rallied.

Laquey shot 44 free throws in the game, as the Wolves were in foul trouble throughout.
Junior Ryan Reagan, senior Johnny Mudd and junior Jonny Crews each scored 14 points for Newburg.

Five players scored in double figures for Laquey, led by 6-9 senior Andre Hilbert with 18 points and senior Andrew Cook with 17 points.

Newburg won the junior varsity game 62-43.

Newburg is slated to host Richland Tuesday in league action, with jayvee play starting at 6 p.m.
