Five members of the Rolla High School wrestling team are in Saturday’s medal round of the Missouri Class 3 State Tournament.


Senior Blayne Shockley in the 119-pound weight class, senior Chris Sanders at 135, junior WestCrutcher at 140, senior Masen Ridenhour at 160 and senior Trent Boyer at 215 will all wrestle Saturday morning for the chance to compete in either the fifth-place or third-place match.

Senior Blayne Shockley in the 119-pound weight class, senior Chris Sanders at 135, junior WestCrutcher at 140, senior Masen Ridenhour at 160 and senior Trent Boyer at 215 will all wrestle Saturday morning for the chance to compete in either the fifth-place or third-place match.

After being upset in the first round Shockley reeled off three straight victories by fall on Friday.

Sanders won his second-round match Friday then lost to Kearney’s Tanner Minder in the semifinals.

Crutcher also won in the second round Friday before falling to Timberland’s Jacob Cook in the semifinals.

Ridenhour won his first two matches by major decision but was pinned by Staley’s Patrick Rhoads in the semifinals.

In Friday’s wrestle-backs Boyer went 3-0 with two pins.

As a team Rolla was in seventh place after Saturday’s action with 50 points. Neosho was leading Class 3 with 152 points while Oak Park was second with 110 and Ozark third with 95.

Waynesville was 10th in Class 4 with 44.5 points while Park Hill was leading Class 4 by a wide margin, with 172.5 points.

Platte County was leading Class 2 with 116.5 points while Seneca was leading Class 1 with 133.5 points.

Senior Cory Rose, at 135, is the lone St. James wrestler to reach the medal round in the Class 2 State Tournament.

After losing to the state’s top-ranked wrestler in the second round Rose beat Josh Thomson of Odessa and Tyler Wood of Harrisonville to reach the medal round. Rose has a rematch with Owensville’s Jack Saebens Saturday morning, with the winner going to the third-place match and the loser going to the fifth-place match. Saebens beat Rose in the district tournament.
