The Rolla High School boys’ basketball team ended its regular season by falling to Springfield Glendale 69-65 Friday in Ozark Conference play.


Rolla ends the regular season with a 9-16 overall record and a 2-7 league mark.


The Bulldogs are seeded No. 5 for the Missouri Class 5 District 10 Tournament, to be held at Camdenton High School.


Rolla is scheduled to play fourth-seeded Lebanon at 7:30 p.m. Monday in first-round action. The Lebanon-Rolla winner advances to the district semifinals against top-seeded Jefferson City at 6 p.m.

The boys’ district title game is slated for 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 26.

On Friday the Rolla-Glendale game was a see-saw affair. The host Glendale Falcons led 17-15 after the first period and took a 40-34 lead into halftime.

Glendale clung to a 56-55 advantage into the fourth quarter.Rolla led by as much as four points in the fourth period. However, a 1-for-4 drought at the free throw line late in the quarter opened the door for a Glendale comeback.

The Falcons took a two-point lead with a little more than four minutes left, got possession of the ball and then ran a delay game for two minutes.

With 2:10 left Glendale was sent to the foul line but missed both attempts. However, a RHS turnover gave the ball right back to the Falcons, who were again fouled.

Again Glendale missed both free throws, but grabbed the offensive rebound on the second and was fouled again with :03 left. This time Glendale hit both free throws to make the final score.

Sophomore guard Jay Zalis canned three 3-pointers and finished with 23 points to lead the Bulldogs while 6-4 senior forward Brendon Dowdy added 19 points.

Guard Blake Freedman had 19 points to pace Glendale while guard Thomas Halter added 16 points and guard Tommy Hedges 15 points.

Glendale also won the junior varsity game 62-55. Rolla’s jayvee team led 14-13 after the first period and took a 30-26 halftime edge. However, Glendale outscored Rolla 22-8 in the third period to take control. The Rolla jayvee team was short two starters due to injury

Sophomore David Cox had 15 points to lead the Rolla jayvee squad, which ends with an 18-5 record.
