I am working with the City and the Chamber to improve the economic condition in downtown.
As I write this, the same cars parked on Pine Street have been there all day.

Every weekday you will find a regular group of vehicles parked in two-hour zones for six to eight hours on Pine Street. These cars belong to owners and employees of businesses in downtown Rolla who are either unaware or unconcerned about the negative impact this has on economic development in the city.

Not only does this behavior make it less convenient for potential clients and customers, but also discourages businesses from locating in the Rolla Downtown Business District.

A recent parking study of the downtown area reveals that there is enough long-term free public parking within two blocks of Pine Street to accommodate all downtown employers and employees.
Downtown Rolla should be a destination for services and retail shopping, but with several empty store fronts and a less than desirable mix of retail and eateries, everyone should work together to make Pine Street an attractive and profitable area for new businesses.

The Rolla Downtown Business Association (RDBA) has contracted with the Meramec Regional Planning Commission to provide Technical Assistance and Strategic Planning for the  next phase of the RDBA Revitalization.

In addition, Engineering Management students from Missouri S&T will be conducting marketing studies on the Downtown District this summer. In the meantime, it does not require a study to realize that parking in front of your business, or in front  of your neighbor’s business, is detrimental to the economic welfare of Downtown and the entire City of Rolla.

There are concerned citizens making an effort to improve the quality of life in our city. If you would like to join them, please contact the Rolla Area Chamber of Commerce and the Rolla Downtown Business Association.
