If Santa Claus had one wish at Christmas time, it would be to spend more time with each child during the child’s annual visit with him.
“I wish I could make time stand still, but I can’t....at least, not until Christmas Eve,” said Santa, with a knowing wink and a grin.
“It’s not about ‘the picture,’” said Santa, referring to the custom of taking a child’s picture with Santa. “It’s about the experience.”
What’s important is that Santa himself is taking the time to hear what a child has to say, explained Mrs. Claus.
“Some children need a little more attention than others, because everyone’s so busy this time of year,” Santa added.
Santa said that while a child is sitting with him and sharing his or her dreams, he often casts a quick glance at the adult who brought the child to the visit.
They’re almost always listening with rapt attention, he said.
“I love to see that look of joy on the faces of the adults, as well as the kids,” chimed in Mrs. Claus.
Santa said he’s grateful when Mrs. Claus can be with him to help.
“Sometimes Santa can be kind of scary-looking to a small child, with that wild hat and beard,” said Mrs. Claus, with an adoring look at her husband.
That’s when the kind-hearted Mrs. Claus steps in, to soothe a child with her confident smile and gentle manner.
Mrs. Claus is not her husband’s only helper.
Santa said he’s spent the last few weeks visiting schools, a fitness center, department stores, Christmas parties, and hospitals.
A visit from Santa brightens everyone’s day, said Mrs. Claus.
And a visit with some of his helpers brightens Santa’s day.
“It’s the helpers who are there every day, not only during the Christmas season but all year; the firemen, police officers, ambulance and emergency workers, doctors, nurses, hospital aides and volunteers, they are very special people indeed,” said Santa.
“Santa Claus is a special feeling in your heart. If you have that; you’re a Santa too.”
