Rolla High School hosted the annual Rolla High School Art Challenge Saturday, Nov. 15.

The second annual challenge was open to all high school students in Missouri and drew 32 students from five high schools.


Rolla High School hosted the annual Rolla High School Art Challenge Saturday, Nov. 15.
The second annual challenge was open to all high school students in Missouri and drew 32 students from five high schools.
The schools competing were Rolla, Cabool, Osage County R1, Bunker and St. James.  
There were two competitions, two dimensional art and three-dimensional art and students were given five hours to complete their entries.
“This is a resume builder for students who want to go to college,”  Shannon Engelbrecht said before the competition.
Engelbrecht, an art teacher at Rolla High School, said before the competition she was inspired to do this competition in part by her husband, who is an athletic coach.
Engelbrecht said she  wants to apply that same spirit of competition to this art competition.
The first-place winner in the 2-Dimensional category was Alyson Forstrum from St. James High School. The second-place winner was Lenora Cocoran from Rolla High School. The third-place winner was Iris Russell from Rolla High School. 
The first-place winner in the 3-Dimensional category was Devon Bowmen. The second-place winner was Doug McCammon from Rolla High School.
The two third-place winners were Joseph Rubczak from Rolla High School and Brandi Wilson from Cabool.
