Candice Metcalf was named the 2008 Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year in a special ceremony earlier this month.
Over 600 employees at the Wal-Mart Distribution Center were asked to nominate a deserving teacher who made a difference in the life of a child.
Jennifer Foster’s letter nominating Mrs. Metcalf was selected as the winner.
Metcalf is a learning disabilities teacher at Truman Elementary.
As the winner, Metcalf receives $1,000 for her school and receives a Wal-Mart gift card.  She also qualifies to enter in Wal-Mart’s National Teacher of the Year competition where she could
win $10,000 for Truman Elementary.
The staff at Truman recognized Metcalf during their November Buzz Assembly, which was appropriately, “Make a Difference.” Metcalf was unaware that she was going to win the award. The next day was Candice Metcalf Day at Truman Elementary.
Candice is married to Dale Metcalf and they have a daughter, Lauren.
