I started my first herb garden after we moved back to the U.S. and settled in southern Illinois. One of our neighbors, Mr. Herb, was kind enough to give us starts. As we learned English, we referred to our herb garden as an “Herbert” Garden, a tribute to our neighbor and an excuse not to tackle when to pronounce, or not pronounce, the “H.”
