  • Organizers of Show Me Your Ruck, a ruck march through and around St. James, hope to raise awareness and money for veterans and service officers suffering from post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and families of current and former service members suffering from the epidemic of suicide.
The march will begin Saturday, Nov. 9, at La Cabana Mexican Restaurant located at 601 State Route B in St James at approximately 8 a.m.
A ruck march is essentially a long walk with a heavy backpack or ruck. Participants will need to bring a ruck, such as a school bag or hiking pack, add some weight at their own discretion.
Participants also are encouraged to bring an American or military flag of some kind if they have it.
For more information, contact Patrick Ybarra at 573-263-3151 or search for the group on Facebook.
In conjunction with the Show Me Your Ruck march, the Missouri Veterans Home in St. James and the Assistance League will host a barbecue competition.
There will be musical entertainment, food and craft vendors as well as displays from different military branches and corporations on site.
The Assistance League provides funds for “extras” that benefit local veterans. These “extras” include outings to various locations, specialty buses and vans for the outings, resident/family picnics and holiday dinners and Christmas gifts for every resident.
For more information on this event, contact JT Sybert at 573-263-1455 or jt.sybert@mvc.dps. mo.gov.
